The Diamond Heights Eichlers

Eichler in the city: around a hundred homes built 1962–64 in Diamond Heights, the redevelopment-era neighborhood above Glen Canyon — his only dense-urban single-family tract, designed by Claude Oakland in seven floor plans, mostly two-story and split-level to hold the hillside.

Inside they are pure Eichler — hydronic radiant floors, floor-to-ceiling glass, shoji closet doors — at 1,600 to 2,000 square feet, with Glen Canyon's eucalyptus and fog for a backdrop. San Francisco buyers who assume mid-century tract modernism means moving to the suburbs are consistently surprised these exist.
