The roof rides on exposed beams, not the interior walls — that's what makes the open plans and glass walls possible, and it's why remodels need someone who understands the structure.
Claude Oakland's signature move: an open-air room in the middle of the house. You cross your own courtyard to answer the front door. Later Eichlers and many Strengs are organized around one.
Hydronic heat in the slab — no ducts, no vents, warm floors. Original in most Eichlers, wonderful when sound, and a standard inspection item sixty years on.
Floor-to-ceiling glazing pointed at a private yard — the indoor-outdoor idea the whole California house grew from. Period single-pane is honest and drafty; know which you're getting.
